I have decided to participate in Blogtember.
It seems like something that would be pretty fun. I have no idea if
I'll be able to actually do this, but I'm going to give it a try!
Today's prompt:
Today's prompt:
Share a photo of something old. Maybe something that has personal
history for you, that was passed down to you, and that has special
meaning to you. Tell us about it and why it's special.
First of all, I can't believe that this is the last day of Blotember and that I managed to do every single prompt!
Grandpa's high school ring |
I know that the quality of the photo isn't that great, but this was the best I could do.
This is a photo of my grandpa's high school ring. I believe he graduated in 1944...the ring is tarnished, the colour has worn off and the inscription is hard to read. The ring consists of what I think is the school's crest and the name of his high school.
My grandpa, who passed away in 2011, was everything to me. He was a consistent presence in my life...seeing him at least once a week for 28 years. We shared a love of family, faith, art and culture, tennis, reading, creativity...
I truly value the time we spent together in his last years. I was blessed to see him 5 days before he died, to have one last visit. When he died, I was devastated and had the hardest time accepting that he would no longer be part of my life. I struggled.
About 6 months after he died, I found his high school ring- it was in a box of things that my grandma had given to my dad. I asked my dad while he was cooking, and probably not paying attention, if I could have the ring. He said yes, so I took it.
For my confirmation, my grandparents gave me a Celtic cross with a chain. I took the cross off the chain and replaced it with my grandpa's ring.I wear it almost every day.
My grandpa is always with me.
