Book: My Not So Perfect Life
Author: Sophie Kinsella
Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is
living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe.
Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a
posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile,
is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to
the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie
takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's
desperate to make her dad proud.
Then, just as she’s finding her feet—not to mention a possible new romance—the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family’s farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away—until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest. Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie’s future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life.

What I Have To Say:
This was the March pick for my Book Club, which I was super happy about- I am a Sophie Kinsella fan and this book was on my personal reading list! This book stays true to Kinsella's style- well developed characters, humour, light and quick read, etc. Unlike other Kinsella books, the "relationship" this book focused on was an employee/employer relationship, instead of a romantic relationship; there was a romantic storyline, but it wasn't the focal point of this book, which was so refreshing. The story was relateable, as we have ALL had that nightmare of a boss and we have ALL gone through a period where we have tried to reinvent ourselves, be somewhere we are not, and/or overly curate our online presence. This book is also a good reminder that people and situations are not always what they seem.
Final Verdict:
If you are a fan of chic lit and/or Sophie Kinsella, give this book a read! If you're not, give it a pass...you really need to be a fan of the genre to get into and like this book.
I love when you post your book club of the month, I have a list of books to read from these post and I love Sophie Kinsella.
